Firestorm Armada - the little guys

Welcome back intrepid readers!

Today's entry sees the completion of the first batch of Sorylian Frigates. These are impressive little miniatures that are mainly resin with some metal, in this case the engine cap on the end.

(Yes, they arn't quite level yet. They are not glued to the flight stands and are a little wonky in the picture below)

These frigates fit in well with the rest of the Sorylian range and do look like they mean business! How the perform on the battlefield is an entirely other matter!

Either way a Firestorm Armada fleet must include at least one squadron of up to 2-4 frigates. So I'm going to need them regardless!

The models themselves are nice. Little to no flash and the detail is fine and crisp. I noticed a slight miscast on one of the many gun barrels but it was so minor I left it as is.

I painted them the same method as the bigger ships in the fleet.

  • Base Coat Chaos black.
  • Coverage of Tamiya medium blue (love this color)
  • Gloss coat.
  • Ink wash in panel lines and then cleaned up with alcohol swab.
  • recover the non blue areas with (gw)Boltgun metal
  • Wash (gw)Boltgun with (gw) Badad black wash
  • Highlight blue areas with (gw)Spacewolf Gray
  • Highlight metal areas with (gw)Boltgun metal and (gw)Mithril Silver
There are a lot of steps but none of them are very complicated and give a decent result.

To match the rest of my fleet I applied some decals to the ships. Giving the Frigates three digit numbers I thought looked about right.

(All in all they are cute little guys.)

Here is the fleet so far. I still have a couple of Cruisers and Frigates to paint as well as a group of the new escort miniatures.

Enjoy!
