Welcome back!
This is Part 2 of the Train Track Embankment project. Last post we talked about creating the parts out of MDF and blue foam.
Below we have the dried sections, fully textured with sand.
Textured and painted |
Next up I added the static Grass. (Note I should have done this last)
also, the boulders and rocks were picked out in white
Static Grass mix added |
Using White Glue I glued down the Track and then sprinkled ballast over it.
Gluing down track and adding rock ballast |
Woodland Scenics Grey ballast would do, luckily I had some left over from the Normandy Beach table project.
The Ballast in question |
After the ballast was down it was still not secure enough. I "borrowed" one of my wife's empty spray bottles and mixed up some white glue and water. Now my tracks smell faintly of Black Raspberry!
Adding a little spritz of water and white glue, with a lovely raspberry scent |
Covered in wet glue the pieces are banished from the house and out in the sun to dry
Outside to dry |
Once it was dry it was time to play a little. I just set out the grass mat to snap a few pics. The finished table will have plenty more terrain!
My Camera acting weird |
Crossing the tracks |
While working on the tracks I also knocked out a few new hills with Cliff faces.
In order to account for different size tables I created a destroyed section of track that can be as wide or narrow as needed to allow the rest of the track reach the ends of the board. I've also built a standard section that can replace the two wrecked section if anyone wanted to run an actual train.
A test track layout below. I think in game play I would treat the Train embankment almost like a river. So in the picture below there are two crossings that are no problem. I would consider that tracked vehicles would be able to climb the embankment as Very Difficult going (Like bocage) Wheeled and Half Tracks can't climb the embankments at all. Infantry doesn't have a problem climbing the embankment.

Enjoy!
Really nice train tracks. Like it, works very well with the tanks.
